Initiated by the shadows she observed in the earth The artist took weeks perfecting the technique used to convey objects in two dimensions on canvas. The subject instead transforms into a representation of the subject in which the painting is the vehicle for its individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subjects are live or perishable objects like people or fruit. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is a bit ephemeral in the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only piece of Alexa's art that survives is her photograph. The painting and the photographic techniques are so tightly coordinated and result in an unflat, 2-dimensional space, which achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is only visible in certain areas that are close to the eyes, or near hair. Meade often incorporates models painted into the environment around them. They are able to engage with the environment she has created. The distinctions between performance installation, photography and painting is thus broken.
