Steven Moffat announced at a Doctor Who press conference on 21 March that Coleman has replaced Karen Gillan as the companion of the Doctor after Arthur Darvill left the series she would play the role of Matt Smith. Moffat has decided to choose her for the role because she has the most chemistry Smith. Additionally, she was quicker than him.
